    Golden Triangle and Golden Crescent

    The Golden Triangle (Death Triangle) is a large, mountainous region spread over Myanmar, Thailand and  Laos on the confluence of the Ruak and Mekong rivers. The Golden Triangle has been one of the largest opium-producing areas of the world since the 1950s and reportedly a considerable amount of the world's heroin comes from the Golden Triangle. While Myanmar is the world's second largest producer of Opium is part of Golden Triangle, the largest producer Afghanistan comes under region of Golden Crescent. 

    The Golden Crescent (Death Crescent) is the name given to another principal area of illicit opium production located at the crossroads of Central, South, and West Asia covering areas from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran.
